Project Type: Design & Build
Client: Excapade
Excapade is a renowned chain of Japanese restaurants that have made its mark in Brunei. Our firm was commissioned to undertake the interior design of their new store in Serusop. For this project, we aim to seamlessly blend the essence of traditional Japanese architecture with modern elements, creating a unique dining experience for the customers.
The restaurant spans across two floors, with the ground floor serving as an open dining area and the first floor housing private rooms. To create a cohesive design, we incorporated various Japanese architectural elements and materials throughout the space.
On the ground floor, we opted for polished concrete flooring. This material not only complements the minimalist aesthetic of Japanese design but also offers durability and longevity. For the ceiling, we utilised a rope design that not only adds visual interest but also serves to cover the services in the ceiling space, giving a clean and seamless appearance.
Moving to the first floor, where the private dining rooms are located, we employed plywood panels to construct a grid ceiling. This warm-toned material imbues the space with a cozy and welcoming ambiance. Additionally, we incorporated polycarbonate sheets to diffuse natural light into the corridors, creating an ethereal and inviting atmosphere.
One standout feature of the first floor is the bi-folding doors that divide the private rooms. By unfolding these doors, the separate rooms can be combined into a singular large private room, allowing for more flexibility in accommodating larger groups. This feature adds an element of excitement and adaptability to the dining experience.
Overall, the final result was a space that not only exudes elegance but also pays homage to the rich cultural heritage of Japan.
