Project Type: Design & Build

Client: Private Client

The Kota Batu Residence stands as a testament to the art of restoration, a stunning renewal of a family’s ancestral home. The primary objective of this project was to create a contemporary design that honoured the cherished aspects of the original house.

In response to the client’s passion for collecting artworks, books, and antiques, we adopted a design approach that embraced a gallery-like living space to exhibit these cherished possessions. The renovation concentrated on reviving the abandoned backyard to provide an additional living area, the abandoned squash court was also revived and transformed into a library and family room, showcasing the client’s vast collection of books.

One of the project’s distinctive features is the large glazing panel in the expanded living room, creating a seamless transition between the indoor and outdoor living spaces, connecting the interior to the patio and backyard. We opted for specific materials, such as wood, stone veneer, and motif mosaic, to distinguish the refurbished sections of the property from the original, while still maintaining the house’s traditional style.

The Kota Batu Residence project embodies a well-balanced blend between contemporary design features and traditional elements, resulting in exceptional cohesion between the old and new segments of the property.
