Project Type: Design & Build
Client: PAZ Holdings
As an Islamic enrichment centre catered towards children between the ages of 4 and 9 years old, PAZ Tarbiyyah seeks to impart knowledge about Islam through a unique approach of purposeful play. Located on the first floor of a typical shophouse in Brunei, this centre stands out for its design approach aimed at creating a mini urban space specifically tailored to the needs of young children.
The centre’sdesign concept revolves around different themes, with a warm and inviting reception area greeting children as they enter. As they explore the space, children will encounter a mini park experience inclusive of a slide, mini rock-climbing wall, and an open learning area. This design approach creates an environment that is not only playful and stimulating but also highly social, providing a conducive space for the young minds to interact with one another and learn.
As part of the unique design of the centre, bespokeobjects such as a central dome for prayers and an ablution area that doubles as a demonstrative display of the natural water cycle from evaporation to collection were specially designed. These objects substitute frontal learning methods for a more integrative experience, augmenting learning through hands-on experiences and promoting a culture of experimentation and exploration.
This project stands as a testament to our design studio’s belief that the designed environment can serve as an educator within itself while shaping the minds of the future generation. Through our careful consideration of the aesthetics, layout, and objects in PAZ Tarbiyyah, we have created a space that not only fulfils its function as an Islamic enrichment centre but also promotes holistic education through design.
